Electric Car Maintenance | Annual Service | Multi-Point Inspection

Annual service is an important part of owning any car, and although electric vehicles require less maintenance than standard gas powered vehicles, electric car maintenance is still an essential part of EV ownership. Even if there are no obvious issues with your vehicle, periodic inspection is still a must, as our technicians can pinpoint if a component is close to failing or wearing out, or if any tires need to be changed or aligned, among many others. An inspection is also highly recommended before any long drive.

Below is a list of some of our inspections and maintenance that we perform when your car is brought in for annual service. Our electric car repair page at Aberdeen EV Repair also goes into more detail about specific services we provide.

Electric Car Maintenance Multi-Point Inspection

When going over your electric vehicle’s components, we provide a variety of basic maintenance tasks necessary to proper function. This includes fluid checks and replacements, such as changing hydraulic brake fluid, checking the transmission fluid in the drive unit, and refilling windshield wiper fluid if needed. We can also change wiper blades, as well as cabin filters, and even very simple tasks like changing key fob batteries.

Tire Services and 4-Wheel Alignment

When driving, the alignment of your wheels slowly shifts and becomes uneven over time. Other minor accidents, such as fender benders and hitting potholes or curbs, along with off-roading or aggressive driving, can worsen misaligned wheels. A sign that your wheels are misaligned is, when letting go of the steering wheel, the vehicle pulls instantly to the left or right. Over time, this worsens, and with all the effort required to keep the car straight, your tires will become worn faster than normal, and more unevenly, and more energy is used. Our team of technicians is ready to get your electric vehicle’s wheels straightened out for a smoother and more energy efficient ride.

We can also inspect and service your tires – our team can give you an honest and informed decision on whether or not you need a new set of tires, single replacements, or tire/rim maintenance and repair without any replacements.

HVAC System

The HVAC system is responsible for heating and cooling of your vehicle, and in south Florida, a working air conditioner is a must. Signs that your AC unit may need maintenance include damp and/or weaker air currents, unusually loud sounds, and and increase of charging time with a decreased charging rate. If your vehicle is displaying any of these signs, it’s important to bring it in for service before the problem gets worse, leading to more expensive repairs down the line.

Suspension Inspection

Worn suspension can cause a variety of issues, including causing wheels to become misaligned much faster than normal, a rougher driving experience – which could lead to increased wear and more frequent maintenance -, and decreased durability and lifespan. If your suspension is not in good condition, it can create various different issues down the line for your vehicle. Our maintenance team will inspect and diagnose any issues, and give you the best price quote for any repairs needed.

Benefits of Electric Cars | EV Advantages | Electric Vehicles

As referenced in our last blog, we’ve recently begun performing electric car repairs at our service location, along with our golf cart repairs. These repairs include simple fixes like software maintenance and body panel repairs, to more complex services such as charging system and suspension and brake repairs. There are a variety of benefits of electric cars that have made hundreds of thousands of drivers in the United States switch from standard gas cars to fully electric vehicles. While they have a higher purchase cost when bought new, the advantages that come with make it a cost effective decision over time. Electric cars have lithium batteries, which are designed to last approximately 10 to 20 years, or 100,000 to 200,000 miles, compared to a standard car battery, which on average lasts between 3 to 5 years.

Below is a list of just a few of the advantages that come with electric car ownership.

Benefits of Electric Cars

Environmental Benefits

One of the most common discussions on the benefits of electric cars comes down to the fact that they are simply better for the environment, and help reduce carbon footprint. Electric cars give off zero tailpipe emissions, reducing greenhouse gases in the air – a must have for heavily populated and polluted cities. In some large cities where there are more cars than people, sometimes the smog gets so bad that it affects day-to-day life. By switching to an electric car, drivers can contribute to reducing the air pollution, thereby improving the lives of millions. Plus, the fossil fuels that standard cars run on are non-renewable resources, meaning they’ll eventually run out. Electricity is a renewable resource, and will never disappear completely.

Lower Running Costs

Another common discussion point about EV advantages is the savings on gas. With gas prices rising all over the United States, electric cars are becoming more and more common for the savings they provide on gas. The convenience factor of plugging in a car is also a contributing factor, as anyone can hook up a charger at home, or plug into an increasingly common charging station in a parking lot or at a gas station.

Lower Maintenance Costs

As stated on our electric car service page at Aberdeen EV Repair, electric vehicles need less service than standard cars. Though they still do require maintenance, it’s less frequent, and many parts of electric cars can last upwards of 10 years without needing to be replaced, like their lithium batteries.

Instant Acceleration

Many electric cars can reach 0-60 mph in 2 to 4 seconds. Their motors also provide instant torque and acceleration.

Possible Government Incentives

Some electric vehicle owners may be eligible for government incentives, like rebates and tax credits.

Special Accesses

Some electric cars are allowed to use HOV lanes on the highway, along with designated parking spots in various areas. This way, drivers can plug in while shopping, and get a good increase of mileage.

Electric Car Service | EV Repair | Car Battery Maintenance

All over the United States are electric cars, from a variety of different companies. Tesla is the most well known fully electric car brand, and other car companies like Nissan and Chevrolet have also joined the market of creating fully electric vehicles – where no longer do drivers need to stop for gas, but instead plug in and charge. Charging stations in parking lots are also becoming more common, with some large stores having areas specifically for these vehicles to charge. With the rise of electric vehicles in the United States, our team of mechanics at our newest site, Aberdeen EV Repair, specializes in electric car service.

Basic Electric Car Service

Software Maintenance

Electric cars are constantly receiving software updates from their manufacturers, such as updates for the navigation or climate control systems, or firmware updates that control hardware like the battery management system or powertrain. These updates tweak the way that energy is used throughout the car, thereby improving performance. Software updates for electric cars are common for companies like Tesla, while other brands such as Ford and Volkswagen have also started rolling out updates for some of their electric vehicles. Our electric vehicle service center will connect your car to the manufacturer’s systems to ensure that all latest updates are received and functioning.

Cooling Systems

In order to keep from overheating, electric vehicles use cooling systems in their batteries and motors. Any issues with these systems could cause major problems if not maintained regularly. Our technicians are trained in these issues, and can identify and repair them before they damage your car.

Body Repairs

Just like any vehicle, electric cars also need repairs done for damaged, scratched, or dented body panels. Electric vehicles, however, are different than standard gas cars, and have more complex needs when it comes to having body panels repaired or replaced. At Aberdeen EV Repair, our mechanics are professionally trained in the complexities of these parts, and use only the best quality parts when performing any necessary replacements.

Complex Electric Vehicle Repairs

Charging System

Having a functioning charging system is one of the most important parts of owning an electric vehicle. Issues that may arise can include problems with the charging port, charging cable damage, or onboard charger malfunctions. Our technicians can perform various wire repairs or connector replacements.

Electrical Systems

Any wiring issues can cause problems for the entire car. Damaged, broken, or corroded wires can disrupt communication between parts, which may require reprogramming as well as repairs.

Electric Motor and Drive Unit

This area relates to vehicle movement, and issues could include a malfunctioning inverter, problems with the regenerative braking system – such as sensor malfunction -, or bearing and winding failures in the motor.

Suspension and Brakes

Electric vehicles require less service in this area than standard gas cars, but brake pad replacements and replacement of suspension components is still a necessary repair.
